Amino acids from kelp – ALEHOOP

In a Joint Undertaking (BBI JU), the EU through Horizon 2020 together with the Bio-based Industries Consortium, are funding ALEHOOP with over €5 million, at 70% aid intensity.

Through the project, a group of 16 companies, institutes, and other entities, seek to alleviate the need for soy-based protein in European food and animal feed production. Europe already has a protein source in excess pea pods, but its amino acid profile is inconducive for humans and livestock.

The project starts 1 June. Alginor is scheduled to receive €250 thousand in a few weeks, approximately half of the sum earmarked for the company.

Alginor will supply the project participants with amino acids extracted from Laminaria hyperborea.

This project has received funding from the Bio Based Industries Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 887259. The JU receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the Bio Based Industries Consortium.
